The Milkwood Run, a cherished Cape Town tradition, took place this Sunday, bringing together runners from all over the city and beyond. Originally launched in 1994 with just a 21.1km race starting at Imhoff Farm Village, the event has grown in both popularity and scope. Now, with three distances to choose from – 21.1km, 10km, and a 5km fun run – participants can experience the breathtaking beauty of Kommetjie, Slangkop Mountain Pass, and the stunning coastline of the southernmost tip of the Cape.
Due to its ever-growing popularity, the Milkwood Run recently relocated to the Soetwater Resort, just behind Kommetjie, providing a fresh setting for the race while still keeping that signature scenic route. The 21.1km route takes runners along the coast from Kommetjie to Scarborough, offering magnificent views of the coastline and the ocean, making it as much a visual experience as a physical one.
The event, organised by the Harfield Harriers Running Club, has remained true to its roots by embracing sustainability. As a “green” event, the Milkwood Run encourages no littering on the route and even rewards runners with a tree sapling at the finish line – symbolizing the commitment to preserving the natural beauty runners come to enjoy.
Friendly faces, early starts, and a welcoming atmosphere make this race one that attracts not just seasoned runners but participants of all ages and abilities. Whether you are taking part in the 5km fun run or pushing yourself through the half marathon, the Milkwood Run continues to be an event that unites people, celebrates fitness, and gives back to the environment.
Join us next year for another unforgettable run along one of Cape Town’s most scenic coastlines!
Congrats to all the organisers – you did a fine job! We, as a brand, are always proud to be involved!
